Drum roll please…. First Place went to Love Factory (Brad & Riva) for their Wild Sodas…. second place went to the fancy spread including nettle-copita by Amber & Eliza, and third went to the wild wild meats (elk/eel) and Venison Stroganoff by Jonas & Toma! Saturday’s Wild Food Cook-Off will be held on the Portland State Campus in the MK Gallery, 2000 SW 5th Avenue (Art Building, 2nd floor, Rm 210) set up is in the morning with tasting from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. Put on that chef hat, whip something up and join us!

So what is this Wild Food Cook-Off?
It is fun cooking challenge that will give the public the opportunity to share, taste, and judge the best of the best in foraged, gathered, and wild foods of Portland!
What does it hope to do?
The Wild Food Cook-Off hopes to showcase this city’s creative cooks and shed some light on the tasty treats that nature provides for Free. Think––-dandelions, ramps, morels, fiddleheads, huckleberries, berries, freshly gathered shellfish…and more!
How can I get involved?
Individual home cooks, chefs, foragers, and cart owners are invited to prepare and submit their best ‘dish’ using local foods available for free on the land, waters and wild lands of Oregon. For details go to Enter the Cook-Off.
What do I win?
If selected by the public as the First Place Winner, you will receive the honor of being named the Top Wild Chef of Portland. Pretty impressive, right? You will also win a handmade trophy made by myself and artist Robin Caster Howard and a surprise foraging tool. Second and Third Place will also win a surprise foraging tool. All challengers will receive a foraging bucket with the logo of the event!
So is there anything else?
Well, yes. I’m hoping to gather the recipes on this site as well as in a small free cook-book later this year. This will be voluntary and no one will be required to give up Grandpa’s pickled wild garlic recipe! All participants will receive a printed version.
When and where will it take place?
The event will take place on Saturday May 15, 2010 from 11:30 -12:30 on the Portland State University Campus as part of the Open Engagement conference and platform of events. Check the Where + When link for the map to the MK Gallery!
