Keep the following in mind when you go out to enjoy the bounty:
1. Ask permission first. Remember that private land is just that and that public land isn’t really public. When asked, most people will be willing to have you gather edibles from their land and may even enjoy a little fruit from your labor! (Also there are steep fines for foraging in the Portland Parks!)
2. Don’t take more than you need! Leave some for others.
3. Never remove all the plants from one area, that is unless you want to kiss that tasty treat goodbye!
4. Know what you are foraging! Learn by going with experienced foragers and always make certain that what you are harvesting is exactly the edible item you you think it is! Some similar-looking plants and mushrooms aren’t so similar in taste and toxicity.
